Farmers will observe the hunger strike from 8 am to 5 pm tomorrow

New Delhi: As part of their protest against the recently passed farm laws, the heads of all farmers’ unions will observe a hunger strike from 8 am to 5 pm on Monday, said agricultural leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni at the Singhu border on Sunday.

“The farmers will be on a one-day hunger strike from 8 am to 5 pm tomorrow. Dharnas will be held at all the district venues,” Chaduni said at a press conference.

“Government agencies have been preventing farmers from reaching Delhi, our protests will continue until our demands are met. Our position is clear, we want the three agricultural laws to be repealed. All farmers unions participating in this movement are together. “said Shiv Kumar Kakka, another farmer leader.

“We need to be vigilant so that there are no wrong elements among us. All of our young people must remain vigilant. If the government wants to speak, we will establish a committee and make a further decision,” said Rakesh Tikai of Bharatiya Kisan Union in Singhu. border.

Sandeep Gidde, another peasant leader, announced at the press conference that the indefinite hunger strike proposed by the farmers as of December 19 has been canceled and instead will be a one-day strike on Monday.

Meanwhile, MoS Agriculture Kailash Choudhury said he hopes farmers will come with a “positive outlook” to the next round of talks.

“I hope that farmers will come with a positive outlook to the next round of talks. If farmers take two steps, then the government will also take two steps, only then can a solution be reached,” he said.

Farmers have been protesting at various Delhi border points for more than two weeks over their demands to repeal the new legislation, which they claim would benefit businesses and end traditional wholesale markets and the minimum support price regime.

Several rounds of talks have been held between the Center and peasant leaders on the laws, but no progress has been made at the front.

Farmers protest against the Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act of 2020, the Farmers’ Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of 2020, and the Essential Products (Amendment) Act of 2020.
