Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that opposition parties who are now against farm laws and who “cheat farmers” were in favor of reforms when their party was in power.
“The people who are sitting in the opposition and deceiving farmers today were in favor of these agricultural reforms during their government. They could not make a decision during their term. Today, when the nation has taken a historic step, these people are deceiving to farmers. “Prime Minister Modi said.

The prime minister spoke at the inauguration of mega energy projects in Kutch.
“The agricultural reforms that have been carried out are exactly what farmers’ bodies and even the opposition have been calling for over the years. The Government of India is always committed to the well-being of farmers and we will continue to assure them and addressing their concerns, “Prime Minister Modi said.
The prime minister said that a conspiracy is circulating in Delhi to confuse protesting farmers. “They are afraid that after the new agricultural reforms the land of the farmers will be occupied by others. Tell me, if a dairy has a contract to collect milk from you, do they also take your livestock?” I ask.
He said trade in agricultural and dairy products is flourishing in Gujarat because government involvement is minimal. “Today Kutch is one of the fastest developing areas. Connectivity is improving here day by day,” said the prime minister.
The prime minister’s statement came even as the agitation by farmers across the country entered its 20th day. Five rounds of talks between the government and farmers failed to end the stalemate, and on December 9, the sixth round of talks was canceled.
However, Union Minister Kailash Choudhary has said that the Center will soon call on farmer leaders for the next round of talks to end the stalemate on farm laws. The protest will escalate further as more farmers are expected to join the ongoing agitation at Delhi’s border points to press for their demands.
