More than four days have passed since farmers in Haryana and Punjab started a protest march against the three agricultural laws introduced by the central government in September. Delhi and the surrounding areas have witnessed violent clashes between farmers and the police, as they were initially denied entry to the national capital.
When the Delhi police allowed them to carry out peaceful demonstrations and maintain law and order, farmers have been camping at the Singhu (Delhi-Haryana) border and the Tikri border for the past three days. The police had also offered the Sant Nirankari land for the peasants to continue their agitation.

But the farmers rejected this offer and asked for Ramlila Maidan instead and further announced that they will go to Gherao Delhi blocking three roads that connect the national capital with Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurugram. Security has been tightened on the Burari field and the police added that basic goods are being provided to farmers currently protesting on the ground.

Meanwhile, Union Interior Minister Amit Shah and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar met at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chairman JP Nadda on Sunday evening to discuss the ongoing commotion. Previously, agriculture minister Tomar urged farmer groups to “create an atmosphere” for the talks, saying the Center was open to dialogue, according to the ANI news agency.
