The seventh round of talks between the farmers’ unions and the central government will take place on Monday. Earlier, the Union’s Minister of State (MoS) for Agriculture, Kailash Choudhary, said he was confident that this meeting would bring out a solution and also conclude the ongoing uproar. He noted that the laws were in favor of farmers, adding that there should be no confusion about PEM. “The prime minister himself said many times that the provision of crop sales in MSP will continue,” said the minister. So far, six rounds of talks have been held between the farmers’ unions and the Center. The first five meetings were inconclusive. However, during the sixth round of meetings that took place on December 30, the Center addressed only two of the four issues raised by farmers and the main demand for repeal of agricultural laws, presented by parliament in September, was left without an answer.

Meanwhile, Congressional Leader Priyanka Gandhi attacked the Center once again saying it was not listening to the legitimate demands of farmers, which has been going on for more than a month. Citing media reports, he wrote on Twitter: “Reports of the deaths of farmers sitting on the borders of Delhi in this cold weather are disturbing. According to various media reports, about 57 farmers have lost their lives and hundreds have fallen ill. The Central Government is acting insensitively by not listening to the legitimate demands of the peasants that have been carried out for more than a month ”.
