Farmers Protest: Kisan Andolan, Indian Farmers Protest 2020
On Thursday, the Center called on farmer groups to consider its proposals to amend the laws to address their concerns and said it is open to discussing its offer whenever unions want. However, the protesting farmers remained defiant and threatened to block the train tracks as well as the roads. A day after protesting farmers rejected the Center’s offer of a written guarantee on the minimum subsistence price and amended some provisions of farm laws, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said union leaders should consider the proposals and said he is ready to continue discussing with them. But he left it to farmers’ groups to propose a date for the next round of talks. “The government is eager and ready for more discussions with protesting farmers. To allay their apprehensions, we have sent our proposal to the farmers’ unions. I want to urge them to set a date for the discussion as soon as possible. If they have any problems, the government is ready for discussion, “said the Minister of Agriculture. Tomar said it was wrong for the unions to announce the next stage of turmoil as the talks continued and urged them to return to the discussion table. “We gave our proposals to the farmers after meeting them and therefore we urge them to consider them. If they also want to discuss those proposals, we are ready for that too,” he said. (PTI)
