New Delhi: Intelligence sources have revealed that left-wing sources have hijacked the farmers’ protest after posters appeared demanding the release of defendants Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and Elgar Parishad during the protests on the Tikri border.
Posters calling for the immediate release of social activists were displayed during a Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) rally on the Tikri border.
During the protests, images of Gautam Navlakha, Sudha Bhardwaj, Varvara Rao, Anand Teltumbde and Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Khalid Saifi accused of riots in Delhi were seen.
‘Farmers must not be fooled’
The posters called for “justice” demanding the release of writers, intellectuals and rationalists on Human Rights Day.
Speaking about this, Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that farmers should not be misled and the problem should not be diverted.
Meanwhile, after photos of protesters on the Tikri border went viral, peasant leaders insisted that their ongoing protest against the Center’s new farm laws is “apolitical.”
At a press conference on the Singhu border, they further said that many political leaders had been refused to use their platform.
When asked about supporters of a farmers’ union on the Tikri border demanding the release of the UAPA defendants and others, who had been arrested on various charges, they said the incident on the Tikri border may be the way farmers observe Human Rights Day.
‘The ongoing protest against the Center’s new agricultural laws is apolitical’
Former JNU student leader Khalid was arrested under the Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for his alleged role in the February riots in northeast Delhi in September.
In November, Delhi police had filed a supplementary charge sheet in court against Khalid and JNU student Sharjeel Imam in a case related to the alleged larger conspiracy in communal violence in the national capital.
Earlier, Tomar and Food Minister Piyush Goyal called on the media to explore and find out if there is any force pushing farmers underway to protest on various borders of the national capital.
