Farmers protest: “It is not moving, the government has until October to repeal the laws,” says Tikait | India News

GHAZIABAD: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait said on Saturday that farmers protesting the three core laws on the Delhi borders since November are “not going anywhere” and would intensify their agitation in the next few days with a ‘kranti tractor’, a mega demonstration that would not be limited to Delhi but would be held throughout the country.
“We will not leave the protest or the government,” Tikait said. “We give the Center until October to withdraw the agricultural laws and guarantee a guaranteed MSP. If our demands are not met, we will plan and intensify our agitation in other parts of the country starting on October 2, ”Tikait said.
The BKU did not enforce a chakka jam at UP Gate on Saturday so it would not disturb sugarcane farmers, but protesters at UP Gate on the Ghazipur border blew horns for a few minutes to mark the end of the transport blockade that farmers’ unions had announced on Saturday . The roar of the horns began shortly after 3pm, the official time for the ‘chakka jam’ to end.

Later, some BKU men went to the ADM (city) office in Ghaziabad and submitted a memorandum with their demands. But although the UP Gate protesters made no attempt to enforce the ‘chakka jam’, they kept the Delhi Police engaged at the border, sapling in hand.
Delhi police recovered the part of the road where Tikait and some other farmers had planted saplings on Friday, along with a sheet of iron spikes that policemen installed there to kill tires. But when Delhi police removed the mound of earth that farmers had piled up there and barricaded the site again, the farmers “claimed” an adjacent piece of land to re-plant saplings.
“They have also increased the police presence in the area. But we will continue to grow our crops even if they plant nails on our way,” Tikait said.
When asked about the resumption of talks with the Center, Tikait said: “We will not speak under duress. The talks this time will be conditional. In addition to repealing farm laws, we will also focus on guaranteed EMP for farmers.”
Highlighting the importance of the farmers’ coordination committee, he clarified: “The coordination committee is our only platform. The decision about our crops will be made by the farmers, the decisions about the protest, the committee.”
