The man introduced by protesting farmers near Delhi at a press conference Friday night had lied about a plot to disrupt their agitation and “assassinate” four leaders on Republic Day, police said Saturday.
Haryana police have been questioning the man after agitating peasant leaders who alleged he was involved in a conspiracy to kill four of them and disrupt their planned tractor parade in Delhi on January 26.
“Yesterday, he alleged that an inspector Pradeep, SHO (police house officer) from the Rai police station commissioned him. The man, said to be 21 years old, was allegedly captured at the Singhu border outside Delhi by protesting peasant leaders who paraded him in front of reporters on Friday night and then handed him over to police.
With his face covered with a scarf, the man claimed that a plan was hatched to assassinate four peasant leaders, who are familiar faces in the media and are organizing the movement against the new agricultural laws of the central government, on stage on Saturday.
