Farmers’ protest brought the Center to its knees, Mehbooba Mufti tweets

Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said on Friday that farmers have brought the Center to its knees and that the halt to peaceful protests shows the government’s nervousness and failure.

Mufti, who was arrested on August 5, 2019 after the Center revoked J&K Article 370 and was released just a couple of months ago, spoke out in support of protesting farmers, tweeting: “Farmers protests they have brought the Indonesian government to its knees. The BJP is afraid of popular power and that is why a reign of repression has been unleashed in J&K since the illegal repeal of Article 370. Not allowing any peaceful means for dissent shows its nervousness and failure on all fronts. ”

Since his release, Mufti had called protests in J&K against various laws and government orders, calling them anti-popular. Recently, he was not allowed to travel to Pulwama, in southern Kashmir, to meet with the family of PPD youth president Waheed Parra, who was arrested by the NIA. Parra is contesting Pulwama’s DDC polls.
