Farmers protest: 7 borders connecting Delhi to UP, Haryana remain completely closed – delhi news

Up to seven borders connecting Delhi with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh remained completely closed on Monday due to ongoing farmer protest, leading to traffic problems and inconvenience to drivers in many parts of the city.

The borders that are completely closed are Singhu, Tikri, Auchandi, Piao Maniyari, Mangesh, Jharoda, and Chilla. While the first six borders connect Delhi to Haryana, the Chilla border is used by people traveling between Delhi and Noida, Greater Noida, Jewar, Mathura, Agra, and Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh.

The protesting farmers who had been camping on the Haryana-Delhi and Uttar Pradesh-Delhi borders for the past 11 days did not block any new borders.

On Monday, the Delhi Traffic Police also issued alerts and notices on social media, informing travelers about border closures and alternative routes they should take to avoid traffic jams.

“The borders of Singhu, Auchandi, Piao Maniyari and Mangesh are closed. NH 44 is closed on both sides. Take alternative routes through the borders of Lampur, Safiabad, Saboli. Traffic has been diverted from the Mukarba and GTK highway. Avoid Outer Ring Road, GTK road, NH44 ”, tweeted the traffic police.

The traffic police also updated that the borders of Tikri, Jharoda are closed for any traffic movement. He said the Badusarai border is open only for cars and two-wheelers, while the Jhatikara border is open only for two-wheelers.

“The open borders available to Haryana are the borders of Dhansa, Daurala, Kapashera, Rajokri NH 8, Bijwasan / Bajghera, Palam Vihar and Dundahera,” the traffic police tweeted.

On the two borders in eastern Delhi, the traffic police said that the Ghazipur-Ghaziabad border (UP Gate) on the Delhi-Meerut highway is closed for traffic arriving in Delhi from Ghaziabad. The NH-24 service road connecting Delhi to Ghaziabad has also been closed since the protest began.

Those coming to Delhi from the Ghaziabad side have been warned to avoid the highway and the NH-24 service lane. The traffic police have asked them to take the borders of Anand Vihar, Apsara, Bhopra to enter Delhi.

In regards to the Chilla border on the Delhi-Noida link highway, the traffic police alert on Twitter seemed confused. While vehicular movement on both carriageways (between Delhi and Noida) is closed due to protests from farmers, the traffic police are only updating on the carriageway connecting Delhi to Noida.

“The Chilla border on the Noida link road is closed to traffic from Noida to Delhi due to protests by farmers near Gautam Budh Dwar. People are advised to avoid the Noida link road to come to Delhi and to use DND, ”the traffic police tweeted.

Since the Chilla border is completely blocked, motorists are taking alternative borders such as Kalindi Kunj, DND, New Ashok Nagar, Kondli and Dallupura to travel between Delhi and Noida. Since these borders are narrow, bottlenecks have been reported with many office goers being stuck in traffic for several minutes.

A senior officer of the Delhi Traffic Police said: “We have increased the presence of traffic personnel at congestion points, mainly at the borders to regulate the movement of traffic manually.” The officer said the traffic chaos would subside by noon, but it is expected to worsen during rush hour at night.
