Two days after tweeting in support of farmers amid the dispute over farm legislation, former Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu did not respond to a call from Congress on Monday calling on all MLAs and leaders to act out across the state. and organize protests everywhere.

While congressional ministers, MLA and party leaders responded to the PPCC’s message by organizing such protests in their respective constituencies, Sidhu stood out by not appearing in his Assembly segment, Amritsar (East).

Sources close to him, however, said that he had called a meeting of councilors close to him on Tuesday, as he planned to participate in the farmers’ protests starting Wednesday.

Sidhu’s close aide Pargat Singh and Jalandhar’s MLA, who organized a protest in their Jalandhar (Cantt) segment, told The Indian Express, “Sidhu represents an urban seat. Therefore, it may not have come out today. But he is likely to participate in the farmers’ dharnas very soon.
At the same time, he said, “I haven’t told you about this, but you should come out. And I’m sure it will come out among farmers. We are only there if Punjab is. And Punjab will be, if the farmers are. “

Sidhu, the sources said, is preparing and is likely to be seen among farmers. “We had conveyed the party’s message to its personal staff. We have been doing that. But we never got any response, ”said a party leader, adding that the congressional protests received an overwhelming response.

Sidhu, who had broken his silence on Twitter more than a year and two days ago, had said: “Farmer is the soul of Punjab, the wounds of the body can heal, but an attack on our spirit, our existence will not be tolerated. The war trumpet says Inqilab Zindabad … Punjab, Punjabiyat and every Punjabi stands with the farmers. “

In another tweet in Hindi, he struck out at the BJP-led government and said: “Sarkarein tamaam umar yehi bhool karti hain, dhool unke chehre pe thi, aaina saaf karti hain (Governments keep making the same mistake, I had dust on my face, but I kept cleaning the mirror) ”.
After his trumpet comment, Sidhu is being watched closely. Those close to him said that this was Sidhu’s chance to come out of his self-imposed political exile and be seen among farmers.

Congress is also preparing to protest. The party had written to President Ram Nath Kovind requesting an appointment to file a protest. But he has not given them an appointment. Prime Minister Amarinder Singh would have led the delegation.
