Farm Bill Protests: Their Vandalized Towers in Punjab, Reliance Says, Will Move to High Court Today

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) of business magnate Mukesh Ambani, whose Jio Infocomm towers have allegedly been attacked by a section of farmers in Punjab protesting against the Center’s three new agricultural laws, said on Monday it will file a petition in Punjab and Haryana in the Superior Court of Justice. “Immediate intervention” in this sense. RIL also accused “vested interests” of instigating and aiding the vandals.

“Reliance Industries Limited, through its subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, in a petition that was mentioned to be filed today in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has sought the urgent intervention of government authorities to completely stop the illegal acts of vandalism by criminals “, news ANI agency quoted RIL as saying. “These acts of violence have endangered the lives of thousands of employees and caused damage and disruption to vital communications infrastructure. The criminals who commit acts of vandalism have been instigated and aided by vested interests and our commercial rivals, ”added RIL.

The Ambani-owned conglomerate also stressed that it has no plans to enter into a contract or corporate agriculture, adding that it has not purchased any land in India for that purpose. “We will insist that our suppliers strictly comply with the Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism. We have immense gratitude and the utmost respect for the Kisans of India, who are the ‘ANNA DATA’ of 1.3 billion Indians, ”said RIL.

Farmers protesting the three laws, in particular, have directed their ire at Reliance, as well as businessman Gautam Adani, believing they will be the beneficiaries of the laws. While protests against the farm law have been largely peaceful, more than 1,500 towers have been vandalized in Punjab. Jio has more than 9,000 towers in the state.
