‘False cases against BJP leaders’ in Bengal: SC seeks response from Mamata government | India News

NEW DELHI: A group of senior BJP leaders, Arjun Singh and Kailsah Vijayavargiya, obtained protection against arrest from the Supreme Court in connection with several cases registered against them by the West Bengal government.
The high court has requested a response from the Trinamool Congressional government, led by Mamata Banerjee, on the BJP leaders’ petition alleging “political vendetta unleashed by the state.”
BJP Petitioner Leaders – Arjun Singh, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Mukul Roy, Saurabh Singh, Pawan Kumar Singh and Kabir Shankar Bose – alleged that the Mamta Banerjee government has “charged false cases and unleashed a terrorist raj in the state.”
The leaders insisted that the cases were shelved in the context of state elections scheduled for next year.
A bank headed by Judge SK Kaul sought the state government’s response to the allegations by BJP leaders who called these cases political revenge in the context of the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections in the state early next year.
Senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi, on behalf of BJP deputy Arjun Singh, presented to the court that 64 cases, mostly simple crimes, were registered against his client after he left the Trinamool Congress in 2019.
Rohatgi insisted that these cases were imputed to his client to prevent him from carrying out political work for the elections scheduled for February or March next year.
Vijayvargiya’s lawyer presented in court that his client does not live in West Bengal and that all cases have been imposed to prevent him from visiting West Bengal.
“Issue notice … there is no judicial process, until the next hearing date,” said the superior court.
In the case of Bose, who is a spokesperson for BJP, the high court has also requested the CISF report on the alleged December 6 attack on him.
The superior court has included the matter for an additional hearing in the second week of January.
