Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram went down briefly for users around the world

Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger – All Facebook services briefly went down worldwide. Many users had been posting on Twitter about not being able to log into any of Facebook’s services, and the Gadgets 360 staff also found that we can’t send messages on WhatsApp or open the other sites for almost an hour. According to the website outage tracker Downdetector, users started noticing the problems around 10.30pm IST on Friday, March 19; As of 11.30 pm IST, they began to be functional again.

Less than an hour later, there were already almost 40,000 reports on the WhatsApp tracker. A similar trend can be observed for all other Facebook services, including Instagram and Facebook Messenger, in addition to the main social network itself. The problem wasn’t just limited to websites either – apps for these platforms weren’t working either

Since then, many people have tweeted about problems with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. When looking at the map in Downdetector, it didn’t appear to be a problem with any region, but it was impacting people all over the world.

Right now, there aren’t many other details about why the service was down, but this isn’t the first time in recent months that Facebook has been down; Just a few months ago, all Facebook services were down for several hours in December 2020..

Facebook’s own downtime dashboard doesn’t reflect any issues at this time, but its 90-day history also marked some issues in January, in addition to the major outage in December.

Users around the world are cracking jokes, trying to guess what caused the outage, and just venting on Twitter, but at this point, it’s unclear when the social network and its various services will return. This highlights something else worth noting: As we become more and more reliant on Facebook services, particularly WhatsApp to drive not just funny cat updates and images, but also build entire businesses and communities, disruptions like these can be quite serious.
