Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Moscow.
According to the MEA spokesman, the two ministers had “excellent” discussions on bilateral issues and of international interest.
“There was an excellent discussion on bilateral issues, regional developments and international issues of interest,” said the MEA spokesperson.
Jaishankar also tweeted that he had excellent conversations with Lavrov and appreciated their exchanges on issues of international concern.
“It is a pleasure to meet FM Sergey Lavrov, this time in person. Excellent talks that reflect our Special and Privileged Strategic Alliance. We value our exchanges on the international situation, ”he tweeted.
EAM Jaishankar will also meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi shortly. They are ready to discuss the growing tension caused by further clashes between the armies of India and China along the Royal Line of Control (LAC).
The Indian army issued a statement on Tuesday in which it said Chinese troops attempted to approach an Indian position near the southern shore of Lake Pangong in eastern Ladakh the night before and fired shots into the air.
The statement was issued after the Chinese People’s Liberation Army alleged Monday night that Indian troops crossed the LAC and “scandalously fired” warning shots near Pangong Lake.
“This issue will be discussed,” MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said at a briefing.
