Ex-DGP praises Bihar CM, hints at political downfall | Patna News

PATNA: One day after voluntarily retiring from service (VRS), former DGP Gupteshwar Pandey praised the prime minister Nitish kumar on Wednesday, describing him as a good CM, who did not interfere with surveillance or allow anyone to interfere.
The 1987 IPS officer decided to leave the service just five months before his retirement amid speculation about his possible immersion in electoral politics, which he has not ruled out. However, he clarified that he has not yet joined any political party.
Speaking about CM’s impartial approach, Pandey said: “It is not possible for any of your (CM’s) family or friends to approach for unwarranted help in any case. It does not allow such things. This is clear to everyone. ”
He added: “Such an act strengthens the backbone of the police department. He has relatives but he never gave them any privileges ”.
Pandey further said: “Even your ministers or MLA do not have the power or the courage to pressure any SP who asks to release any accused. This is a great quality. That freedom for the police is essential. Full surveillance depends on this, ”said Pandey.
Hinting at a possible political career, Pandey said: “A large number of supporters of Buxar, Bhojpur, Begusarai and even Valmiki Nagar who are affectionate with me, they want me to contest the election but I have not decided anything yet. If I decide, I will let everyone know, ”DGP told the media on Wednesday.
Later he told TOI: “If I enter politics, it will be with the ultimate motive of serving the common people of Bihar. ”
On whether speaking boldly about him Sushant Singh Rajput The death case had something to do with his premature retirement, Pandey told TOI, “There have been several accusations against me that I am acting as a political agent after speaking out about the Sushant Singh Rajput case. In such a situation, it was not appropriate for me to continue with the election of the assembly ahead ”.
He added: “I thought it best to take voluntary retirement so that no one could point the finger at me that I am biased. My career has been free of controversy and no one has blamed me for being biased. ”
Speaking of his decisions as DGP, Pandey said the government pressured him to take steps to get things under control and that he never failed in his duties in 34 years of service. “Whether in Chhapra, where an arson was going on even after the presence of paramilitary forces, I was sent by helicopter just to check things out because ordinary people are connected with me,” he added.
Pandey said this is perhaps why a large number of people, including those in his department, are also “jealous” of him.
“I changed the Begusarai district crime scene in 1993-1994 while I was SP. Incidents of bank loot, damage to roads, damage to gasoline pumps, kidnappings for ransom, gang warfare and other heinous crimes became zero. All this happened when the police hardly had any infrastructure, ”he said.
