Several leading honey brands sold in India have failed adulteration tests in Germany, according to research from the Center for Science and the Environment (CSE). The CSE study revealed that almost all brands of honey sold in Indian markets are adulterated with sugar syrup, as 77 percent of the samples in the tests were found to be adulterated.

Honey samples from leading brands such as Dabur, Patanjali, Baidyanath, Zandu, Hitkari, and Apis Himalaya all failed the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) laboratory tests currently used globally to detect modified sugar syrups, he said. the CSE.

Dabur and Patanjali have questioned CSE’s claims, saying it appears to be motivated and aimed at smearing their brands. They also insisted that the honey they sell is naturally collected from Indian sources and packed with no added sugar or other adulterants.

“Recent reports seem motivated and aim to smear our brand. We assure our consumers that Dabur honey is 100% pure and indigenous, naturally collected from Indian sources and packaged without added sugar or other adulterants,” said a Dabur spokesperson.

Patanjali Ayurved Managing Director Acharya Balkrishna said: “It appears to be a plot to smear the Indian natural honey industry and manufacturers in an attempt to promote processed honey.”
