Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor for the first time on Sunday openly responded to accusations of not adhering to quarantine regulations by the time she had returned from abroad and tested positive for COVID-19 last month.
“All the people I have come into contact with, whether in the UK, Mumbai or Lucknow, have shown no symptoms of COVID-19, in fact all tests have been negative,” Kapoor said in a statement issued in their Instagram page.
“I was silent not because I was wrong, but in fact I am fully aware that there have been misunderstandings and incorrect information sharing,” he said.
Ms. Kapoor has been home for 21 days after recovering from COVID-19. Last month, she had caused a scare between several of the top politicians who had apparently attended a dinner with her in Lucknow and those who contacted them, after she revealed that she had tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from United Kingdom. . UP police also filed an FIR against her.
Ms Kapoor says that she traveled from the UK to Mumbai on March 10 and was “duly screened” at Mumbai International Airport. There was no notice that day (a UK travel notice was released on March 18) indicating that he needed to be quarantined, he said.
“I didn’t show any health problems, so I didn’t quarantine,” he said, adding that on March 11, he traveled to Lucknow to see his family.
They did not establish screening tests for domestic flights, he said. “On March 14 and 15, I attended a friend’s lunch and dinner. There was no party organized by me and I was in absolutely normal health,” added Ms. Kapoor.
She said she developed symptoms on March 17 and 18 and was tested on March 19 and “chose to go to the hospital” when her samples tested positive the day after.
“It was giving time for the truth to prevail and for people to reach their own understanding,” he said.
“The negativity thrown at a person doesn’t change reality,” said Kapoor as well.
