On Wednesday, an epic war of words was witnessed as actors Diljit Dosanjh and Kangana Ranaut clashed over the issue of the farmers’ protest. A dispute that started with the Shaheen Bagh Bilkis Bano protester soon spread to insults, Punjabi identity, Delhi riots, and even some muscles flexed on the mother figure. Earlier this week, Ranaut mistakenly identified a Punjab farmer as Bilkis Bano, the octogenarian who made international headlines during protests against the CAA. Closing it, Dosanjh shared a BBC interview of the woman Ranaut had mistakenly identified as Bilkis Bano. From there. It went on and on, with Dosanjh countering each of Ranaut’s accusations with a counterattack in Punjabi shudh.
Addressing Ranaut in Punjabi, Dosanjh has now become Twitter’s new Indian star by educating Kangana and responding to her accusations with fiery reactions. While the Punjabis had a great time, a large portion of the Indians were apparently clueless as they couldn’t really understand what Diljit was tweeting.
Many turned to Google to translate the tweets into Punjabi, and others asked their Punjabi friends for help:

Of course, there were jokes and memes. Internet star and comedian Saloni Gaur, famous for her various avatars like Kangana Runout, also poked fun at the apparent language barrier.

Thousands of farmers have stayed at various Delhi border points for the ninth day in a row protesting against the new farm laws, which they fear will dismantle the minimum price support system and corporateize agriculture. Many faced charges of lathi, water cannons and tear gas as they headed towards the national capital as part of their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march against contentious laws.
