Even if we have to vote BJP … Mayawati attacks former ally Akhilesh Yadav

Mayawati’s comments have been linked to her setback ahead of the November 9 election on UP.

After their brief alliance in Uttar Pradesh failed in last year’s national elections, Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav have once again been fierce rivals. Mayawati has said that she is even ready to vote for the BJP to defeat any candidate from Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party in the UP legislative council polls.

The leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has even said that it was a “mistake” to withdraw his 1995 case against the Samajwadi Party for the sake of their alliance.

“We have decided that to defeat the candidate of the SP in future elections of the MLC (Member of the Legislative Council) in the UP, we will dedicate all our energies and even if we have to give our vote to a candidate of the BJP or any other candidate of the party, we will we will do “Any party candidate that is dominant over Samajwadi’s second candidate will get all BSP MLA votes for sure,” Mayawati told ANI news agency.

Congressional Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, hinting at Mayawati’s tacit support for the BJP, commented on the video of her statement: “Is there anything else to say?”

The former chief minister’s comments have been linked to her setback ahead of the Nov. 9 elections for 10-seat Rajya Sabha in Uttar Pradesh.

Mayawati’s party has put forward a candidate, Ramji Gautam, for a Rajya Sabha seat even though he does not have the numbers in the assembly. The BSP leaders had indicated that they could gain the support of other parties outside the BJP.

However, in a blow to those plans, four of the 10 BSP MLAs who had proposed the candidate’s name said their signatures on their nomination document had been forged. They also hinted that they can switch sides. One MLA revealed that he had met with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and another commented that he was “known to treat his party members with respect.”

An enraged Mayawati beat Akhilesh Yadav and called her decision to partner with him for the Lok Sabha elections as a big mistake. She also said that when she saw the behavior of the Samajwadi Party after the results of the Lok Sabha elections, she realized that it had been a big mistake to drop her 1995 case against the party for an attack on her.

“We shouldn’t have joined them. We should have thought a bit deeply. We made the wrong decision in a hurry. We made a big mistake doing it,” he said.

“I want to reveal that when we decided to contest the ballot box with the Samajwadi Party for the Lok Sabha elections in UP, we worked very hard for it, but from the first day of our coalition, Akhilesh Yadav kept telling SC Mishra (senior leader of BSP) that since BSP-SP has joined, I should withdraw my case, “said Mayawati.

“Our party had joined the SP to fight the communal forces during the Lok Sabha elections. Due to the internal struggles of their families, they could not gain much from the alliance with the BSP. They stopped responding to us after the elections, for so we decided to part ways with them “.

Before the general election, Mayawati buried her legendary rivalry with the founder of Samajwadi, Mulayam Singh Yadav, and teamed up with her son Akhilesh Yadav to form an opposition bloc against the BJP.

Mayawati went to court to drop her case on what is known as the 1995 “guest house” incident, when she was mistreated by Samajwadi Party workers after she decided to withdraw support from the Mulayam Singh government and join the BJP.

The goodwill was short-lived; the Mayawati-Akhilesh Yadav combo was a success in UP, leaving the two rivals turned allies complaining to each other.
