The coronavirus pandemic has been occurring worldwide for several months, infecting and endangering millions of lives. Lives of numerous unfortunate people have succumbed to the virus. The only way to break the chain of transmission is by practicing strict social distancing. As a result, many sports and eSports events have been indefinitely canceled or postponed. These include events like E3, TwitchCon, etc. Many eSports tournaments like Dota 2 International, Apex Legends Global Series, League of Legends Championship Series and many more have also been canceled. The Fortnite World Cup 2020 is now the latest gaming competition added to the list of canceled events.

There is a mutual feeling of disappointment across all gaming communities as the list of canceled events continues to grow steadily, although it is the best measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Fortnite World Cup 2020 canceled, other competitions will continue

Epic Games announced the development in a series of tweets. “Due to the limitations of online competition between regions, there will be no Fortnite World Cup in 2020. “ the developer stated. Server delays and connection issues are some of the issues that can mess up a Fortnite real-time online game when many different regions are featured. Because Epic’s biggest global gaming event couldn’t be held in one physical location, they canceled it. No venue or date for the World Cup was previously announced, but is reportedly scheduled for July 2020.

Epic further wrote: “We don’t know when a return to major world events in person will be practical, but we look forward to hosting some sort of Fortnite World Cup in 2021.Additionally, they also mentioned that all other Fortnite contests will be held online for the rest of the year. These include Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS), regular Fortnite Cash Cups, all other third-party events, and broadcasts.

Fortunately for the fan base, they’ll still be able to watch all the other Fortnite online tournaments live from home. They could also have many events in the game, such as live concerts, the release of the much anticipated Chapter 2 Season 3, etc. in the near future. The FNCS competition, which started on May 2, has already returned to the official broadcast.

It’s disheartening that the biggest Fortnite event doesn’t happen this year. But given the current global scenario, it is best for everyone to stay home and safe. In addition to the competitive scene, Fortnite has witnessed a massive resurgence in recent memory. Thanks to Travis Scott’s virtual concert and a new addition to a violence-free social mode called Party Royale.
