NEW DELHI : As Delhi’s air quality fell to the category of “very bad”, Arvind Kejriwal’s government launched an initiative on Thursday to tackle the problem of rising air pollution in the capital and also to halt the deterioration air quality at emergency levels.

Air pollution is increasing in the national capital this time due to burning stubble, as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said. Meanwhile, the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said that 95% of air pollution in the city is due to local factors.

According to data from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the Air Quality Index (AQI) is at 366 at ITO, 309 at RK Puram, 313 at Anand Vihar and 339 at Wazirpur, all four at the level ‘very poor’.

Measures taken to solve the threat of contamination:

1) CM Kejriwal addressed a press conference today and said: “We are launching a ‘Red light on, Gaadi off’ campaign to address air pollution. 2) CM Kejriwal said that out of one million vehicles in the city, if 30-40 lakh vehicles enter the road every day and remain idle on road signs, air pollution levels increase. 3) Meanwhile, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has deployed 50 teams for inspection in the Delhi-NCR region. The CPCB has also urged the State Pollution Control Board to deploy teams to the field. “CPCB will deploy 50 teams for inspection in Delhi-NCR, starting on October 15, 2020. We have asked the State Pollution Control Board to deploy teams to the field to verify compliance with various instructions given by us.” the CPCB said Thursday. .

4) Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai imposed Fine of 20 lakh to the Department of Public Works (PWD) for failing to follow environmental regulations at a construction site in Burari during a surprise visit on Thursday. “I will visit this site tomorrow as well and if necessary I will impose a fine again,” he said.

5) On Wednesday, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) banned the use of generator sets of all capacities, running on diesel, gasoline and kerosene starting today to address air pollution in the season. winter. However, essential and emergency services such as hospitals and railways will remain exempt, according to the DPCC.
