Having recently won the Dubakka assembly vote in Telangana, the party’s electoral managers see better prospects in the 2023 assembly polls for which it is prepared to use the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls, for which Secretary General Bhupendra Yadav has been appointed in charge. Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar, Maharashtra MLA Ashish Shelar and Gujarat Secretary Pradipsinh Vaghela will assist Yadav as co-managers of the GHMC surveys.

It has already announced a large meeting of parties opposing the BJP in Hyderabad, after which a national campaign against the saffron party will be launched.
Until now, TRS had taken a soft approach towards BJP, particularly on legislative matters in Parliament. With few exceptions, TRS, which has five MPs in Rajya Sabha and nine in Lok Sabha, has supported the government.
However, BJP seems willing to give up TRS support and sees GHMC polls as an opportunity to prepare the ground for the 2023 assembly elections. Yadav was in Hyderabad on Thursday and attended a meeting of the GHMC election committee of the BJP at the state party headquarters.
Dubbaka’s victory has strengthened BJP’s confidence as the constituency was seen as a stronghold of the KCR family. It shares its border with Gajwel, represented by KCR; Sircilla, her son’s constituency and IT Minister KT Rama Rao; and Siddipet, the stronghold of the CM’s nephew, Harish Rao.
GHMC’s polls are politically significant as its jurisdiction spans four districts: Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Sangareddy, which have 24 constituencies and five Lok Sabha districts.
After winning four seats in Lok Sabha in the 2019 polls, BJP’s expectations have skyrocketed in Telangana. However, the party has yet to make its presence felt in Tamil Nadu and has started preparing for next year’s elections.
