Did not seek service of Sharad Pawar Tax Notice: Election Commission

Sharad Pawar said he received a tax notice about his election tax returns.

New Delhi:

The Election Commission has not instructed tax authorities to notify Maharashtra’s veteran leader Sharad Pawar, the electoral body said today, a day after the head of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said the Tax Department sobre la Renta gave him a notice requesting “clarification and explanation” about his electoral affidavits.

“… The Election Commission of India has not issued any such instructions to CBDT (Central Board of Direct Tax) to issue a notice to Shri Pawar,” the commission said in its statement.

While expressing solidarity with eight Rajya Sabha members suspended over chaos during a vote on controversial agricultural bills, Sharad Pawar, 79, accused the center of pursuing an agenda against political opponents, as he referred to the tax notices.

“I received the notice yesterday (Monday). We are happy that (the center) wants us among all the members. The notice was delivered by the Income Tax after the Electoral Commission (it) requested … We will respond to the notice, “he said, according to the Press Trust of India.

He responded to media inquiries about reports that his daughter Supriya Sule, a member of Lok Sabha, Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray had received similar notifications.

“I received a notice from the Income Tax Department in reference to the affidavit that I filed in 2020 and 2014 and 2009-10. They are asking for information and clarification and similarly they have asked Supriya (Sule) also for the latest three choices “. ,” he said.

Pawar had also announced a one-day fast to show solidarity with the suspended members of the Rajya Sabha.
