ED is likely to file a new case based on the NCB’s findings in the Sushant Singh Rajput case

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), which recorded a money laundering case in connection with the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, will soon register another case based on the findings of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The NCB arrested the late actor’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, on Tuesday.

The ED registered a money laundering case on July 31 based on an FIR submitted by the Bihar Police on the complaint by Sushant’s father, KK Singh.

Singh, in his complaint to the Bihar police, had alleged that 15 million rupees were withdrawn from the late actor’s account to other bank accounts with which the family has no connection. A senior Department of Education official said the agency is looking at all angles to register a new money laundering case based on the NCB’s findings.

The official said that the financial investigation agency is receiving legal assistance to understand the legality of registering a new case, as the NCB case has been registered under the NDPS Act.

The official said: “We previously registered a case based on Singh’s complaint, which concerned money laundering in relation to Sushant’s bank account. While the new case will be based on the NCB’s findings, as he has made several arrests. “

The official further said that the DE will also address the angle of money generated through drug trafficking and drug purchases. The money generated through the sale, purchase and trafficking of drugs will be considered proceeds of crime in the new case, another official said.

The official also said: “We will take the copy of the investigation from the NCB and then we will study it. After studying the documents, we will decide to register a new case,” the official added.

Sushant was found dead on June 14 in his flat in Bandra.

The NCB has filed a case against Rhea, her brother Showik, Goa-based hotelier Gaurav Arya, talent manager Jaya Saha, and Sushant’s home manager Samuel Miranda, and others.

The NCB arrested Rhea, Showik, Miranda, Sushant’s personal staff, Dipesh Sawant, on drug acquisition charges. A Mumbai court sent Rhea into custody until September 22. Rhea, her family members, including her father Indrajit, her mother Sandhya, her brother Showik and others, are being investigated by the CBI, ED and the NCB.

The ED has already recorded the statements of Rhea, Showik, Indrajit, Sushant’s former manager Shruti Modi, Sushant’s roommate Siddharth Pithani, Miranda and others. The ED has also recorded the statement of Sushant’s father, KK Singh, sisters Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh.

A team from the CBI SIT has been camping in Mumbai together with a team from the forensic department since August 20. They have visited Sushant’s flat in the Bandra area, the Waterstone resort, and Cooper Hospital several times. The CBI has also registered the statements of several people in connection with the case.
