Easier navigation for AIMIM, BJP, TRS on 50 Old City seats

HYDERABAD: It will be mainly a three-peaked contest in around 50 municipal districts of the Old City in Hyderabad. Political parties, in addition to AIMIM, BJP, and TRS, are expected to find things a bit difficult in some districts to find voting agents.

The individuals who volunteer as polling officers are often those who know the neighborhood well. Or, the parties appoint them as election agents to act as the eyes and ears of their respective parties, keeping a close eye on each voting booth and helping the voting officer control spoofing among voters. They are the ones who are present at the beginning of the day and remain lit until the polls are safely taken to the strong rooms for later vote counting.

Since much of the Old City has been its pocket neighborhood for decades, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen is well placed with party workers ready to be deployed as its election agents. This is also the case with the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has always coveted a victory for the Old City, not only in municipal elections, but also in Assembly and Parliament elections. Although its leaders have intermittently won electoral district assembly elections in the Old City, such as Goshamahal in the last elections, or Karwan in the past, this time, BJP, which has adopted a resurgent attitude after winning the Dubbak Assembly by vote. , is also well placed with respect to the search for poll workers.

TRS, which has shared friendly ties with AIMIM in the past, will compete in all 150 GHMC districts this time. Finding voting agents will not pose many problems for you. But in some neighborhoods, there are concerns about the effectiveness of their agents.

The parties that are expected to face problems finding electoral agents are Congress, Majlis Bachao Tahreek and the independents, who do not have many resources in the area. In some cases, when a person agrees to be a voting agent for a party, they may alienate others in the community and find themselves isolated for some time.

“It is only the AIMIM and the BJP that will easily find electoral agents in the Old City. For everyone else, including TRS, young people, who often accept these responsibilities, are very wary of being seen as marginalized by others in their neighborhoods, ”said a leader of a political party.
