New Delhi:
Delhi’s Chief Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia today celebrated Dussehra at his residence with an effigy of Ravana without firecrackers. The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also called on people to avoid using firecrackers while celebrating the festival amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
“Best wishes to everyone in Dussehra. Today we celebrate the victory of good over evil. Pollution and Covid are the greatest ‘rakshas’ (evils) today. I appeal to all of you to take an oath to celebrate a Dussehra and Diwali and we must fight these evils together, “said Sisodia.

The event at Mr. Sisodia’s residence was organized by the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee, which is famous for the Ramlila in the Red Fort attended by the Prime Minister and the President.
Arjun Kumar, Head of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee said: “The pollution levels are very high. We brought an effigy that does not have firecrackers. It is not only the Red Fort Ramleela that is not happening this year, in general also the celebrations are very moderate this year. Considering the Covid and pollution, even in the 1 or 2 Ramleelas that are happening throughout the city, no effigies of Ravana will be burned. “
The national capital has witnessed a sudden increase in the amount of coronavirus amid rising levels of pollution in the city. Many have pointed out that the surge in cases – Delhi hit its highest single-day peak in 35 days on Saturday – could be due to deteriorating air quality in the city-state.
The Delhi government has launched a series of campaigns to control the national capital’s air quality, which has deteriorated dramatically since last month. Arvind Kejriwal’s government has also established a “war room” to monitor all anti-pollution measures that his government is taking.
Sisodia’s party, AAP, has accused the Union government of “inaction” on the issue, which the Delhi-based party says is due to the burning of crops in neighboring Punjab and Haryana.
“Pollution and stubble burning are not just Delhi-related problems, they affect all of northern India. It is unfortunate that the central government did not take any action during the year and now the whole country will pay for it. Party leader Aam Aadmi (AAP) had recently said.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also called on the center to intervene on the matter, saying the polluted air may be life-threatening in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Polluted air can be life-threatening in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both affect the lungs,” he said.
The national capital registered 4,116 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, its highest peak in a single day in 35 days. The number of deaths from the virus has also risen to 6,225.
This is the second day in a row that more than 4,000 cases have been registered in the city. 4,086 cases were registered on Friday.
With the 4,116 new infections, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Delhi has risen to 3,52,520, the Delhi government said.
