Due to Covid-19, the mortal remains of Pranab Mukherjee were transported by van instead of in a gun car | India News

NEW DELHI: In view of ongoing restrictions due to Covid-19, the mortal remains of former President Pranab Mukherjee arrived at the crematorium in a hearse instead of the carriage with weapons.
“Due to the requirement to follow social distancing norms and other protocols related to Covid-19, the mortal remains of the former president were carried in a hearse instead of the normal transport of weapons,” Defense Ministry officials told ANI.
All protocols and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Interior are being followed during the funeral, they said.
Pranab Mukherjee’s funeral takes place today with military honors and he would be cremated at the Lodhi Road crematorium.
The former president, who had tested positive for coronavirus, died this Monday, weeks after his brain surgery. He was 84 years old.
The government and many states have announced an official seven-day duel.
The body of Pranab Mukherjee was brought to his official home in Delhi, 10 Rajaji Marg, for dignitaries and ordinary people to pay him respect.
