NEW DELHI: The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) conducted a successful flight test of ABHYAS – Expendable High Velocity (HEAT) Airborne Target of Provisional Test Range, Balasore on Odisha.
During the tests, two demonstration vehicles were successfully tested, according to government sources.
“The vehicle can be used as a target for the evaluation of various missile systems,” added the sources.
Abhyas is designed and developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment, DRDO.
Praising the flight test, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated all stakeholders and said that the DRDO has achieved a milestone today.

“The air vehicle is launched with a suspended dual thruster. It is powered by a small gas turbine engine and has a MEMS-based inertial navigation system for navigation along with the flight control computer for guidance and control,” they added. the sources.
The vehicle is scheduled for fully autonomous flight, the sources said.
Check-out of the air vehicle is done via the laptop-based ground control station.
During the test campaign, the user requirement of 5km flight altitude, 0.5 mach vehicle speed, 30 minute endurance and 2g turning ability of the test vehicle was successfully achieved.
