DRDO man held hostage in Noida hotel for a day | Noida News

NOIDA: A 35-year-old scientist who police say is associated with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) was caught and held hostage for nearly an entire day in an OYO hotel by a gang of five who demanded a ransom of 10 lakh rupees.
Such crimes are not uncommon in Noida, but what makes this one intriguing is the woman at the center: far from someone operating from the shadows, her Facebook profile cries out for attention. Sunita Gurjar, or Babli, claims to be the head of a local BJP “mandal,” made a brief appearance on Bigg Boss season 10 claiming to be related to the winner, Manveer Gurjar, and flaunts her photos with actor Salman Khan. , the host of the show, on social media.

Noida’s BJP unit said she is a former party worker, while Manveer’s family said she was from their village but not a relative.
Sunita was one of three detained by the police on Sunday night from the Sector 41 hotel. The police are looking for two others who managed to avoid them. The gang, which is believed to have misled at least three people under the pretext of offering “massage parlor” services, is the second to be arrested in the city in the past two weeks.
How the cops rescued the DRDO scientist
On September 15, three members of the Sonu Punjaban gang were arrested for allegedly misleading hundreds of people at NCR using a similar modus operandi.

The scientist, a Supertech Capetown resident in Sector 74, unknowingly contacted Sunita and her assistants during an online search of nearby massage parlors, police said. When she dialed the number, a man on the other end allegedly asked her to come to the Logix City Center.
On Saturday night, the scientist arrived at Logix in his Honda City, parked the car, and was taken to the Kunal residence, which is maintained by OYO, in another car by the man he met there. Police said the gang of five overpowered him there, locked him in a room and called his wife, demanding the ransom money.
The scientists had left home around 5.30pm and told his wife that he was going to buy some household items. It was around 11 p.m. when he received the first rescue call. A series of calls followed threatening her not to approach the police. For almost 14 hours, the scientist’s wife tried to fix the money. She went to the police only when she didn’t.
Three teams were formed to track down the accused. Police put the scientist’s phone on surveillance and the last location of the network was traced to Agahpur in Sector 41. There they concentrated on the hotel. The police set a trap and sent the scientist’s wife to the hotel with a bag containing cash. “Three men were standing outside the hotel and they came to take the bag. Two of them managed to flee while the third, Deepak, was captured. He led the police to the room where the scientist had been kept, ”said additional DCP Ranvijay Singh.
Rakesh, the hotel manager, and Sunita were also present at the hotel. Both were arrested. The two who fled were identified as Anil Sharma and Aditya Kumar. Deepak and Rakesh are brothers and live in Haryana’s Bhiwadi. Police said the gang had kidnapped three people in the past 2-3 months. “They had taken over the hotel with a monthly rent of Rs 1.4 lakhs,” said Sudhir Singh, the SHO of the Sector 49 police station.
Police are investigating a possible connection to the Sonu Punjaban gang, whose three members were arrested earlier this month. Police said the gang chose their targets carefully: wealthy people who were unlikely to go to the police because the world would know they had requested “massage parlor” services.
Noida Police He said that a verification campaign of the hotels managed by OYO would begin in the wake of the criminal incidents that have taken place at such properties.
An OYO spokesperson told TOI: “This incident is deeply disturbing. At OYO Hotels and Homes, the safety of our guests is of the utmost importance. We are investigating the matter and are committed to cooperating with law enforcement authorities. Any act of misconduct or non-compliance by the hotels in our network falls within the zero tolerance zone for us. We are suspending our contract with this hotel with immediate effect ”.
