NEW DELHI: The Covid-19 pandemic in India is trending down, except in two or three states, the government said Tuesday, noting that it is “particularly notable” compared to some Northern Hemisphere countries where a A severe increase in the intensity of the spread of the virus is observed.
The situation related to the pandemic in the world is particularly worrying and it has been seen that countries with a much higher economic capacity and per capita income and with a good health system can succumb to a second huge peak, Chairman of the Working Group National on Covid-19, VK Paul, said at a press conference.
“This should be a lesson to all of us,” said Paul, who is also a NITI Aayog member for health.
“We are very fortunate that our trend is in the opposite direction. We are fortunate that today we are showing a decrease in the pandemic (Covid-19), except in two or three states. This decrease is particularly notable because in other countries of In the northern hemisphere there is a severe increase in the intensity of the pandemic, ”he said.
The pandemic, mainly in the northern hemisphere, has struck again in several countries. The third peak has come in the United States, Paul said, adding that “by getting a little lax … by decreasing surveillance, containment strategies should also play a role.”
He said Kerala, West Bengal and Delhi are moving towards a third peak.
This is cause for concern and there can be no complacency in following Covid-19 “appropriate behavior” in the near future as more challenges will emerge, Paul said.
More festivals are coming and “where we’ve ever failed in the last few days, it will show in 10 to 12 days,” he said.
Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said union states and territories such as Kerala, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi have been observed to have reported an increase in cases during the festival season.
“It is mandatory that we all follow the appropriate Covid-19 behavior in the festival season,” he said.
A continued decline in the daily average number of new coronavirus cases has been observed, and the number has dropped from 83,232 between September 23 and 29 to 49,909 between October 21 and 27, Bhushan said.
“The Covid-19 fatality rate in India has decreased from 1.77% on September 1 to 1.50% to date. India’s Covid-19 recovery rate has increased from 76.94% on September 1 at 90.62% to date, “he said.
Bhushan also said that 49.4 percent of new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours were reported in five states and union territories, which are Kerala, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi.
