BANKURA: west bengal chief minister Mamata banerjee on Wednesday he approached disgruntled TMC leaders and said that from now on he will personally deal with party and administration affairs.
“I am aware of those who are in contact with the opposition camp and the differences between the people should not lead to any misunderstandings about the party,” Mamata said at her first major public demonstration here in the post-Covid era.
“I’ve been in politics all my life. Through my experience, I can never claim that everyone is good. There may be one or two people who are not good, but we will correct those mistakes. The TMC will rectify if any mistakes have been made, “he added.
“There may be misunderstandings or someone may be angry at some people, but please don’t misunderstand the party for that,” Mamata appealed.
Mamata’s rapprochement comes amid reports from some senior party leaders that they are leaving and is significant as several leaders have left the party.
Banerjee’s comment follows complaints from several TMC leaders that the reins of the party are no longer in his hands.
TMC, Mamata said, has a mechanism to seek reports from the field on its leaders and had removed several leaders against whom there were complaints.
“Some have complaints about who will act as party observer in which district. I want to make it clear that I am the party observer for the entire state. When you are in a political party, you have to bring everyone,” he said. .
Disgruntled TMC leader and state transport minister Suvendu Adhikari he maintains a distance from the party and has not attended state cabinet meetings for months. Sources close to the leader said he is unhappy with the organizational restructuring carried out a few months ago and did not feel comfortable with the idea of eliminating the district observer position.
“I am busy with administrative work. But from now on, I will take care of both the party and the government. If anyone thinks that Didi is not aware of his activities, then he is wrong. I am aware of everything”, Banerjee , whom her party cadres affectionately call Didi (older sister), she said.
“I want to say clearly that I am very aware of the intentions of those who keep in touch with the opposition camp. I know there are few opportunists, but the number is much lower compared to dedicated workers,” he said. without naming anyone.
Adhikari has held rallies and marches without party banners for the past month. TMC has started side channel conversations with him to address his complaints, but so far they have been inconclusive.
Adhikari, apart from the East Midnapore district from which it comes, influences some 40-45 assembly districts of West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia and Jhargram districts found in the Jangalmahal tribal area and parts of the Birbhum district.
It is not just Adhikari whose conduct is causing concern among TMC’s top brass. Several other MLAs and leaders have also openly spoken out against it, something that was unthinkable a few years ago.
Many disgruntled TMC leaders have pointed to the poll strategist Prashant Kishore commissioned by the party to devise a campaign strategy for the important state elections of 2021.
The election to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly is scheduled for April-May next year, when Banerjee will seek to return to power for a third consecutive term.
