Don’t brag like ‘Singham’: Prime Minister Modi to young IPS officers: The Tribune India

Hyderabad, September 4

Policewomen can interact with mothers of children in Jammu and Kashmir to prevent young people from taking the “wrong path,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, as he praised the people of the union territory, hit by the threat of terrorism.

Addressing the 2018 group of IPS on probation at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy here via video conferencing, he also warned them not to commit crimes and said they would be exposed to the latest technologies, which are also helpful in improving the surveillance.

In response to a woman on parole, Modi praised the people of Kashmir, saying they are “lovely” people and have a special ability to learn new things.

“I am very connected to these people. They treat you with so much love … Together, we have to work to prevent children from going in the wrong direction.

“And this can be done efficiently by our policewomen. Our force of women can work effectively to educate mothers and bring those children back. I’m sure if it does, in the initial stage itself we can prevent our children from straying down the wrong path, ”Modi said.

Apparently he was referring to the radicalization of young people and forced them to join terrorist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister also emphasized police intelligence for effective policing.

“Today, technology plays an important role in crime detection, be it CCTV footage, mobile tracking… it helps you big time. But, the same technology is also responsible for the suspension of police personnel today … ”, warned Modi.

“The way technology is useful is also becoming a cause of musibat (difficulty) … and the police are more subject to it,” he added.

He further said that police officers must train people to see how technology can be used to the fullest and in a positive way. Big data, artificial intelligence and social media were the new age technologies that can be used as weapons to enhance surveillance.

Emphasizing the importance of training, Modi pointed to the “Karmyogi Mission” scheme approved by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday.

“Training plays a very important role. In our country, for a government employee, training is considered a punishment … The impression has been created that any useless official would be assigned the job of training, ”he said.

The Cabinet approved the Karmyogi Mission as the government wanted to “attach great importance to the training activity …

It is necessary to carry it forward ”, he said.

Dubbed as the largest bureaucratic reform initiative, the plan aimed to develop capacities to make government employees more “creative, proactive, professional and tech-savvy.”

The prime minister said that the ‘human’ side of the police force in the country stood out during the coronavirus pandemic and security personnel did a commendable job.

During the time of the coronavirus, the police used to sing songs to raise awareness, it was used to feed the poor and receive patients.

These scenes were witnessed by people … During the coronavirus, humanity worked in khaki uniform, he said.

He also advised new officers not to be swayed by movies like “Singham” that portrayed super-cops, and said some police personnel want to show off first but the main aspects of surveillance are lost.

“Some cops joining the new duty want to show off first … scare people … And the antisocial elements should tremble upon hearing my name … after watching movies like ‘Singham’, it goes through their heads and that’s why the jobs that need to be done are lost, ”Modi pointed out.

Responding to one of the Tamil Nadu cadets on stress management among police personnel, Modi said that farmers also face stress if there are unwanted variations in rainfall.

He also noted that yoga and pranayama were great ways to beat stress.

Police stations must be kept clean and orderly and must also become centers of social trust, Modi said.

Asking police personnel to always respect the power of society, he said officers must harness the inherent strength of society to achieve citizen-friendly goals.

Up to 131 probationers, including 28 women, from the 2018 Indian Police Service successfully completed their training at the academy.
