Donny van de Beek’s father has described how his son’s future transfer to Manchester United is a “dream come true” for the midfielder.
United have agreed to a £ 40m fee with Ajax for the van de Beek signing and the Dutchman is expected to put his pen to paper next week.
The 23-year-old has long been linked to a trade away from Ajax and must now sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
Discussing the imminent transfer of his son, Andre van de Beek said Omroep Gelderland It was “a dream come true” and he called United a “wonderful club.”
Real Madrid was one of the teams previously linked to van de Beek, and Andre said there was more than one offer on the table, “but Donny decides himself,” he said.
Van de Beek hails from the small town of Nijkerkerveen, which is southeast of Amsterdam, and the player’s father added: “They are a proud town.”
The midfielder played 34 times for Ajax last season, scoring 10 goals, and was one of the last of the 2018/19 Champions League stars left.
He has had to be patient, as Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and Hakim Ziyech sealed moves at big clubs abroad, but van de Beek finally has his chance.

“He deserves it,” said Jan van Leuveren, who is president of van de Beek’s former academy team, Veensche Boys.
Van de Beek even continues to give money to the academy to help with the running costs and development of its facilities.

The player is now expected to fly to Manchester this week to undergo a medical exam and put the finishing touches on his move to the Red Devils.
