President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence tested positive for coronavirus after discovering that a member of the United States Army working on the White House campus had been infected, a White House spokesman said Thursday.

CNN identified the military official as Trump’s personal valet.

“Recently, the White House Medical Unit notified us that a member of the United States Army, who works on the White House campus, tested positive for coronavirus,” said Trump’s deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley. “Since then, the president and vice president have tested negative for the virus and remain in excellent health.”

Trump, his immediate entourage, and White House guests regularly undergo tests that provide results in about 15 minutes.

However, there are potential gaps in the evaluation, including journalists who may be within walking distance of the president but who are not evaluated.

Trump has steadfastly refused to wear a mask in public, as have his top officials, although the practice is encouraged by his own government guidelines.
