US President Donald Trump’s medical team has said he experienced two episodes of oxygen drops in his blood, but has not had a fever since Friday morning and his vital signs are stable. “He could be discharged from the White House on Monday,” they said.
The 74-year-old is receiving treatment for Covid-19 at a military hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.
He has completed a second dose of Remdesivir, and his liver and kidney functions were normal, his medical team added.
Hours earlier, the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, had revealed that the president’s condition was more critical than officials had made public. According to reports on Friday, Trump was experiencing “mild symptoms” and was continuing to work.
“I can tell you that the most important thing we see is that now he has no fever and that he is doing very well with his oxygen saturation levels,” Meadows said during an interview with the Fox News broadcast.
First lady Melania Trump, who also tested positive for the coronavirus along with her husband Thursday night, was recovering at the White House, where she remained “fine with only a mild cough and headache.”
Several aides and advisers to the president of the United States also tested positive for the virus. Kellyanne Conway, former Trump adviser, Bill Stepien, head of Trump’s re-election campaign, and Chris Christie, the former New Jersey governor who helped Trump prepare for the first presidential debate against Democratic rival Joe Biden tested positive one after the other.
