Donald Trump called India ‘dirty’ in the US presidential debate and Indians are not here for it

Donald Trump just called India “disgusting”.

Well, more specifically, it called our air dirty.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday described the air in India and China as “dirty” when denouncing the plans of Democratic rival Joe Biden to tackle climate change. In his second and final presidential debate, Trump renewed his criticism that action on climate change was unfair to the United States.

“Look at China, how disgusting it is. Look at Russia, look at India, it’s disgusting. The air is disgusting,” Trump said at the debate in Nashville.

The comment also came moments after Donald Trump said he was not a racist. Trump also pulled the United States out of the Paris climate accord, which aims to limit global warming “well below” two degrees Celsius.

The irony of the comment aside, the comment didn’t fit very well with the desis on social media.

Some pointed out that Trump calling India ‘dirty’ was not wrong, indeed. In fact, the air quality in India is terrible and each winter brings with it a lower AQI.

In February this year, Donald Trump was in India for a rally and visited iconic places like the Taj Mahal.
