Domestic flights: First flight of Bengaluru, with 150 passengers landed at Ranchi airport, ranchi

The first domestic flight, carrying 150 passengers, from the resumption of air travel after the national security locking of the restrictions that were imposed on the 25 of March to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), landed in Ranchi from Birsa Munda Airport at 7.35 on the morning of Monday, airport officials said.

The last flight took off from the airport 24 March, a day before the Center suspended flight operations because of the national security locking of the restrictions.

“The first flight Ranchi operated by Air Asia arrived from Bengaluru carrying 150 passengers. The same flight took off from Bengaluru at 8.50 in the morning. On Monday, six flights are expected to operate from the airport,” said Vinod Sharma, director of Birsa Munda Airport.

Frequent fliers described the Monday flight as an unusual experience due to the thermal detection and the temperature of the body of the reading carried out by airport authorities to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

“It was a new experience. We have maintained the social distancing in the entire trip. The security check of the mechanism of follow-up was also a departure from the past,” said Ruchi Kumar, a Ranchi resident and a frequent traveler.

Incoming air passengers have been urged to remain in quarantine at home for the next 14 days, according to the guidelines issued by the government of Jharkhand late on Sunday afternoon. Those who travel to Jharkhand and planning to leave within 72 hours, would be exempted from mandatory quarantine in the state, according to the state disaster management department.

All the airlines that operate out of Birsa Munda Airport have been directed to share the list of incoming passengers with the government of the state. Passengers have been asked to arrange your own private vehicle or taxi for the movement to your destination from the airport.

The authorities have secured free of contact from the entry, screening, scanning, and security checks at the airport. “Web-cams have been installed, which read passenger boarding cards and their faces. Flyers with confirmation of web check-in will be allowed at the airport terminal. Boarding pass will not be issued at the airport,” said Sharma.

The authorities have also made preparations to sterilize the luggage of the passengers in an automatic mode. Passengers have been urged to follow the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Previously, Rai Mahimapat Ray, deputy commissioner, Ranchi, and other high-level officials visited the airport on Sunday to review the preparation before the resumption of domestic flights. The use of masks and gloves has been mandatory for all air passengers. Would necessarily under thermal detection, Ray said.

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has opposed the Centre’s move to resume domestic flight operations on Monday, and the passenger train service since June 1.

JMM general secretary-cum-spokesperson, Supriyo Bhattacharya, said the Covid-19, crisis would have to deepen, as the Centre is planning to run more than 26,000 Shramik Special trains to transport more than 3.6 million migrant workers across the country during the next 10 days. “The states are going to be in serious trouble due to the influx of passengers on a plane or train, as many may have contracted the infection by SARS-CoV-2, which makes Covid-19,” he said.
