NEW DELHI: Senior Congress Leader and former Madhya pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath on Monday he hinted at retiring from politics, saying he has no ambitions for any position and is ready to get some rest.
“I am ready to get some rest. I have no ambitions or greed for any position. I have already achieved a lot. I am ready to stay at home,” Nath told a rally in Chhindwara.
Demand for a comprehensive reform of Madhya Pradesh’s congressional unit grew stronger after the party posted a lackluster performance in last month’s by-elections.
Despite a vigorous campaign led by Nath, Congress managed to win only 9 of the 28 assemblies where by-votes were held while the BJP bagged 19.
Responding to the statement of Nath, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan He said it was up to the leader of Congress to make the decision.
“We will not make anyone leave. It is your will to retire or stay home. It is a personal matter and you should think about it,” Chouhan told the ANI news agency.
In March of this year, 22 members of the Legislative Assembly of Congress, mostly loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia, had resigned from the party and from their membership in the Madhya Pradesh assembly.
This led to the collapse of the state government led by Kamal Nath and paved the way for the BJP to retake power.
Scindia and her loyalists had joined the BJP, and many of them became ministers in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.
