Bombay:
Rhea Chakraborty, who faces multiple investigations into the death of actor Sushant Rajput, has asked the Bombay High Court not to dismiss the case against his two sisters, who have been accused of obtaining a false prescription for him. The sisters had asked the court to dismiss the case. They also appealed that the court request the Central Investigation Office, which is investigating the actor’s death, not to take coercive measures against him.
The case against Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh stemmed from a complaint by Rhea Chakraborty, whom Sushant Singh Rajput’s family has accused of exploiting him for money and having a role in his death.
In her petition, Rhea Chakraborty said that the manufactured prescription was intended to help Sushant Rajput acquire drugs prohibited by the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act.
His complaint was based on WhatsApp text messages between Sushant Rajput and his sister on June 8, six days before the 34-year-old was found dead in his Mumbai apartment. The chats, which were released in the media days earlier, indicated that, contrary to his claims, his family was aware of his mental health problems.
Priyanka Singh had advised her brother to take three medications: Librium, Mexito, and Lonazep, which are prescribed for depression and anxiety.
She had sent him a prescription as these drugs were not sold over the counter and said she could help him connect with “the best doctor in Mumbai, all confidential.”
In her request, Rhea Chakraborty said that it is not known whether Sushant Rajput had used the drug as prescribed. It is also not known whether those drugs caused his death or contributed to his mental state that led to his suicide, his petition said.
Drawing attention to his co-defendant, Dr. Tarun Kumar, the petition said that he had “easily issued a prescription” without any knowledge of Sushant’s history of mental illness, his treatment thus far, or any consultation.
“It is unthinkable for a physician to treat a patient with severe anxiety and other mental health problems without consultation,” the petition said.
The investigation into this matter is in an incipient stage, the actor told the court and asked that the case not be dismissed.
The bench of judges of the SS Shinde division and MS Karnik will hear the case again on 4 November.
Rhea Chakraborty had dated Sushant Rajput for a year before leaving her apartment days before her death.
Last month, she was arrested by the Office of Narcotics Control, which is investigating the angle of drugs in the case, and was released after 28 days.
