President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the fourth annual convocation of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Wednesday via video message and praised the University for producing many eminent personalities. He told students that they had the privilege of being part of one of the most diverse, vibrant and intellectual communities and added that they were fortunate to be led by some of the brightest minds.
“Out of the more than 80,000 JNU alumni, many have made an impact in India and abroad through contributions in public administration, academia, politics, social work, science and technology, the media. and communications, fine arts and business leadership, ”said the president.
In his speech he referred to the Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, both former JNU students. “It should be a source of pride for the University students that the Indian Finance Minister @nsitharaman and the Foreign Minister @DrSJaishankar are JNU alumni,” said the president.
The president also congratulated the University for receiving the highest accreditation status from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) this year.
“I am pleased to note that JNU has received the highest rating from the National Council for Evaluation and Accreditation. It consistently ranks # 2 among all universities in the Indian government’s national institutional ranking framework, ”he said.
Universities like JNU should be at the forefront in developing specific hand-gripping mechanisms and promoting innovation among students, the president said, encouraging students to create an “original body of knowledge that is used to address contemporary global challenges “.
