Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan said Tuesday that he was disappointed with his co-star Rajinikanth’s announcement that he will not join politics because of his health. Rajinikanth’s decision came a day after he left the hospital in Hyderabad, where he was being treated for high blood pressure.
“I will meet Rajinikanth again after my election campaign. Like his fans, I too have been disappointed, but his health is important to me, ”said Kamal Haasan of Makkal Needhi Maiam, according to the ANI news agency.
Superstar Rajinikanth said he will not jump into politics and start a party as previously announced, citing his fragile health. “For this reason, I report with great regret that I cannot get to politics by floating a political party. Only I know the pain behind making this announcement, ”he said in a statement. However, he said he will serve the people in any way he can without getting into electoral politics.

The 70-year-old had announced earlier this month that he would launch his political party in January and make details public by December 31. He had first announced in 2017 that he would indeed enter politics before the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu in 2021 and candidates for all 234 state seats.
Rajinikanth’s older brother has backed the Tamil superstar’s decision to withdraw his decision to launch a political party. R Sathyanarayana Rao, 77, said it is his brother’s wish and that he cannot be forced to change his mind.
Unlike Rajinikanth, Haasan launched Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) in 2018 in Madurai and fought in the Lok Sabha elections last year with a 3.7 percent vote share. Haasan is in the second stage of his campaign before heading to shoot a movie in January.
Kamal will compete against the DMK, AIADMK and their national partners Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is also the first state election after the deaths of J Jayalalitha and M Karunanidhi of AIADMK.
