In announcing the feature, WhatsApp has said on its blog: “WhatsApp messages often live on our phones forever. While it’s great to preserve the memories of friends and family, most of what we ship doesn’t have to last forever. Our goal is to make conversations on WhatsApp feel as close to those in person as possible, which means they shouldn’t have to stick around forever. That is why we are excited to introduce the option to use disappearing messages on WhatsApp. “
The Disappearing Message is a subscription feature, which when activated will delete the sent message after seven days. The feature can be activated for individual and group chats. If you want to save a message before it disappears, you can take a screenshot or copy and paste it.
Speaking of the seven-day period, WhatsApp noted on the blog: “We started with 7 days because we believe it offers the peace of mind that conversations are not permanent and at the same time remain practical so that you don’t forget what you were chatting with. . The shopping list or store address you received a few days ago will be there for as long as you need it, then disappear when you don’t. “
This is how you can activate the disappearing message feature on your WhatsApp
– First, update your WhatsApp on Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
– After updating the application, open the WhatsApp chat window
– Touch the contact name, you want to activate the disappearing message function.
– Select Enable Missing Message.
You will need to follow the same process to activate the feature on Android, iOS, and WhatsApp Web.
When you turn on the disappearing message feature, you’ll also notify the contact that the feature has been turned on for your chat. The message will appear in both chat windows. However, if you forward a message that disappears, it will not be deleted after seven days. If the disappearing message is an image or video, it will be saved to your gallery automatically. WhatsApp says that “the media you receive on WhatsApp will be automatically downloaded to your photos. If disappearing messages are turned on, the media sent in chat will disappear, but will be saved on the phone if automatic download is turned on.
