Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh today criticized critics of the farmers’ protest near Delhi’s borders after pizzas were distributed to protesters last week.
The 36-year-old “Udta Punjab” actor, who has been backing the biggest farmer upheaval in years, today tweeted an image that read: “Farmers who consume poison were never a concern, but farmers who eat pizza make news. “.

Last week, hundreds of pizzas were distributed in Singhu on the Delhi-Haryana border to protesters who have been camping out against the government’s controversial agricultural laws.
“The farmers who gave the dough for the pizzas can also afford to have one,” said Shanbir Singh Sandhu, who organized the party with his four friends, as quoted by the PTI news agency.
While there were many who praised the initiative, some on social media claimed that the protests had been hijacked.

Unable to repay their loans, many indebted farmers have committed suicide in recent years.
Earlier this month, Diljit Dosanjh had visited the protest site on the Delhi-Haryana border as a show of support. “We have only one request from the Center … please meet the demands of our farmers. Everyone is sitting here in peace and the whole country is with the farmers. This agitation is about the farmers,” he had said at the time.

He has been regularly sharing his views on the turmoil that started in late November. One of the tweets he posted, praising the protesters, was also endorsed by Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra. “Our farmers are India’s food soldiers. Their fears must be appeased. Their hopes must be fulfilled. As a prosperous democracy, we must ensure that this crisis is resolved sooner rather than later,” he tweeted.

Dosanjh also criticized actor Kangana Ranaut for misidentifying an elderly woman at the farmers’ protest in Delhi as one of the organizers of Shaheen Bagh’s rally against the center’s controversial citizenship law.
Thousands of farmers are camping near Delhi’s borders, demanding the repeal of new agricultural products despite repeated guarantees from the government.
