Nitish Kumar should resign from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and endorse Tejashwi Yadav as Chief Minister, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said today, one day after the Chief Minister won a fourth term in Bihar, but with very diminished numbers.
In a series of tweets, Digvijaya Singh said that the BJP had reduced the stature of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with its “kootneeti“(strategy) in Bihar.
“BJP is like a vine, it takes support from another tree and blooms as the tree dries up. Nitish HeeYou and Lalu Yadav fought together and he went to jail. Give up the BJP-RSS ideology and bless Tejashwi. Don’t let this vine-like BJP grow up in Bihar, “the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh tweeted.
Digvijaya Singh lost a prestigious battle in Madhya Pradesh yesterday, with former colleague Jyotiraditya Scindia handing over a portion of the seats won by Congress in 2018 to the BJP in by-elections. Scindia had blamed Digvijay Singh and Kamal Nath when he left Congress in March with 22 MLA, overthrowing the party government in Madhya Pradesh.
Digvjaya Singh also advised Nitish Kumar to leave Bihar and enter national politics. “Nitish HeeBihar has become small for you. You should join the national politics. Don’t let the Union’s “divide and rule” policy. Help all socialists to believe in secular ideology. Please consider, “said the Rajya Sabha member.
He also said that the leader of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, was the “only leader in the country waging an ideological battle.”
The NDA retained power in Bihar yesterday, but Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United won just 43 seats compared to 74 for his ally BJP.
Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), which ran 137 candidates, only won one seat, but is believed to have damaged the JDU and downgraded its count, making it the junior partner in Bihar for the first time.
Tejashwi’s opponent RJD Yadav emerged as the largest party with 75 seats, but its alliance fell far short of the 122 majority mark in the 243-member assembly. Congress turned out to be the weakest link in the opposition, winning only 19 of the 70 seats it contested.
