For most of his career, rightly or wrongly, Rishabh Pant has always been touted to fill the huge MS Dhoni shoes and, most of the time, he has fallen prey to the trap. Today, after attempting to land a helicopter shot like MS Dhoni, the Delhi batsman had to regret it within seconds.
After Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer laid the groundwork for the Delhi Capitals to score more than 250 runs, hope depended on Rishabh Pant getting them to the desired plane and started the innings on that note. During his 17-ball, 38-run innings, there were multiple mistakes, but none of that mattered as the runs kept coming.
In the penultimate installment of the 18, Andre Russell hit a near-perfect yorker to Rishabh Pant, who got deep into the crease to play helicopter. While the execution was perfect, the shot didn’t have enough meat to cross the distance. He went long and Shivam Mavi didn’t have to move much from his position to grab the catch.
When the cameo came to an end, Pant was seen kicking himself for failing to replace another pair of overs and help the side pass the 250-run mark. But more than that, the context made it a sad affair for Pant, as he will surely have trolls on his back for not being able to replicate the former Indian captain’s signature shot.
