Kangana Ranaut, at the center of a dispute with the Maharashtra government, turned her attention on Friday to the Speaker of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, to tell her that she must intervene and stop the harassment of women.
Ranaut, whose comment comparing Mumbai to Pakistan’s occupied Kashmir sparked a dispute with Maharashtra’s ruler Shiv Sena, as well as his coalition partners, Congress and the NCP, said that history would judge Gandhi’s silence and indifference.
Ranaut’s office here faced action for “illegal” tampering by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) led by Shiv Sena on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old actress has been aggressively criticizing the Maharashtra government on Twitter since she returned to the city from her home state of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, shortly after parts of her office were demolished by civic authorities.
On Thursday, Ranaut took on the Maharashtra government by punishing Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for “abusing power” and declaring that his voice will not be suppressed.
The ‘Queen’ actor, who has been granted Y-plus category security, posted a series of tweets comparing the BMC to bullies, calling the state government a ‘milavat sarkar’ and recalling Marathi culture and pride.
Later that day, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale met Ranaut at his residence in Khar here and alleged that BMC’s demolition of his bungalow in Bandra was carried out out of a feeling of revenge and that the government Maharashtra also had a role to play.
