Actor Raza Murad has said that fate was never on Rajiv Kapoor’s side. Rajiv died of a cardiac arrest on Tuesday, at the age of 58 years. Son of the late actor Raj Kapoor, Rajiv never reached the top professionals reached by many members of his illustrious family.
Speaking with the reporters before his funeral, Raza remembered about Rajiv and how they used to be thick like thieves in his day.
He said in Hindi: “This is a great loss for me. We went back a long way, when he was an assistant director. He used to work like any other assistant, doing daily tasks. I had no pretensions about him. Such a privileged family. This is what Raj saab taught all his children, that they must first learn to live a normal life, before they think about becoming stars. “
When asked if Rajiv had problems with loneliness, Raza replied: “Yes. Definitely. You see, his movies didn’t work. Prem Granth was a good movie, but it didn’t work. His television series didn’t work. Their marriage didn’t work. It doesn’t work. Destiny wasn’t on Rajiv Kapoor’s side. Worse actors than him have been successful in this industry. I’ll say there was loneliness, but never bitterness. “
In a 2016 interview, Rajiv admitted that Ram Teri Ganga Maili from 1985 is still his best known work. He starred in a series of flops after that.
Rajiv said that they always compared him with his uncle, Shammi Kapoor, due to their physical resemblance to each other, and that did not work in their favor. He told Cinestaan: “As far as my career is concerned, Ram Teri Ganga Maili is the best movie I ever made. The other movies didn’t do well, but they weren’t all bad. The sad part was that everyone wanted to project me as Shammi. Kapoor, because I looked like him. “
