Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that the flagship housing scheme of the Center for the Rural Poor not only provides them with homes, but also gives them confidence, as it opened more than a lakh of houses in Madhya Pradesh.
PM Modi spoke during the virtual ‘grih pravesh’ or house opening event for those who have built houses with the help of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
“I spoke to many who have their pucca houses today and have the house of their dreams. Now 1.75 lakh families from Madhya Pradesh, who will have their own homes today. I also congratulate them and wish them all the best, ”said Prime Minister Modi.
These houses were completed in just 45 to 60 days during the coronavirus pandemic, he added.
“This day also reinforces the belief of millions of citizens that there are government schemes made with the right intention of becoming a reality and reaching their beneficiaries. I can feel the satisfaction and trust among those who have found their home today, ”he added.
He also spoke with various beneficiaries during the event attended by the Prime Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Officials had said that Chouhan had transferred a cumulative amount of Rs 102 crore, which was the fourth and final installment of housing finance, online to 68,000 beneficiaries, on September 8. He had said that 17 lakh houses of 20.30 lakh have been completed under the rural component of PMAY, and the goal for 2019-20 was to build 6 lakh of houses, of which 3.45 lakh have been completed.
Chouhan added that those who were unable to benefit from the scheme at this time will be covered by PMAY’s ‘Awas Plus’ scheme.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which is an upgraded version of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) -was Indira Awas Yojna, 17.2 million houses have been completed since 2014, after Modi took power in the Center.
The scheme not only helps rural homeless people to obtain pucca houses, but also creates jobs, as it takes up to 90 days of work under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee National Act (MGNREGA) of 2005 to build a House.
