Sources familiar with the development told IANS that Ram Rahim was granted parole over his wife Harjit Kaur’s allegation that his mother, Naseeb Kaur, 85, who suffered from heart disease, was seriously ill.

Dera’s boss met with her mother, who is hospitalized at Gurugram, authorities confirmed on Saturday. He was taken under tight security to Gurugram Hospital where he was kept during the day and was taken to jail at night, a police officer said.

The 52-year-old is currently housed in the Sunaria High Security Prison in Rohtak, 250 km from the state capital, Chandigarh.

His requests for bail have been rejected by the courts on several occasions. On April 24, his three-week probation to reunite with his ailing mother was denied on two charges. First, probation could create public order problems in the state upon release and surrender later.

Second, a report from a panel of doctors, who examined her mother, said she had heart disease but was not in critical condition.

In June 2019, Ram Rahim Singh had withdrawn his parole statement after the BJP state government was rounded up by opposition parties for favoring the self-described god man, who sought parole for 42 days to tend his agricultural fields. at the headquarters of his sect in the city of Sirsa.

Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in prison in August 2017 for raping two women.

A special CBI court in Panchkula in January last year also sentenced him and three other people to life imprisonment for the murder of a journalist more than 16 years ago.

His conviction on August 25, 2017 sparked violence in Panchkula and Sirsa, leaving 41 dead and more than 260 injured.

Ram Rahim was sponsored by political and party leaders in Punjab and Haryana for nearly two decades because of his ability to influence the votes of his followers.
